Power in this context can be defined as, “The ability to act or produce an effect; the possession of control, authority, or influence over others or events; physical strength or force; an official or legal right to do something; a natural skill or an ability to do something; the ability to act with great strength or in a forceful way; capacity; energy; etc”.
Subdue in this context can be defined as, “To conquer or bring into subjection; to bring under control (especially by an exertion of will); to reduce the force, intensity or degree of; to tone down; to overcome; to win against; to beat, defeat, prevail over or triumph over; to upend; to prevent something from existing or developing; to repress; to overpower by superior force; etc”.
‘Power to subdue’ can therefore be seen as the ability to conquer something or bring that thing into subjection. The authority to bring something under control. The capacity to exercise influence over one’s life situations and circumstances. Having total physical and spiritual power over natural and supernatural entities concerning one’s destiny. Possessing the dunamis to prevail over all objects and events, as touching one’s life or one’s spheres of influence.
One of the first blessings and commands God gave to mankind was to subdue the earth (Gen. 1:28). Having made almost all the creatures on the earth in five days; and then animals and Man on the sixth day; God hallowed the seventh day and rested from His works of creation. He then gave the power of control over all the works of His hands on earth to Man.
This was a delegated, ambassadorial power given to Man to represent God here on earth. As huge as this power was, Man was to later make a mess of it by disobeying God and because of that, Man became slaves to Satan (Mt. 6:24; Rom. 6:16). Such that, the power to subdue the earth in the interim was then transferred to Satan, and Man was taken captive by Satan (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; 2 Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2: 1-2).
God in His mercies did not intend to leave Man in that state forever, so God put in place a redemptive plan for Man immediately (Gen. 3:14-15, 21).
In the fullness of time, God sent His Son – Jesus Christ to make a surer and lasting atonement for the sins of Man (Gal. 4:4-5). Such that whoever believed in this work of grace will obtain power to subdue the earth in their sphere of domain (Mk. 16:15-20).
In this fourth month of the year, which coincides with the commemoration of Jesus Christ’s work of redemption for Mankind, God has impressed it upon my spirit that we are entering into a season of ‘subduing of the earth’ within our domain. We shall by the help of God exercise and enjoy a vivid control over natural and supernatural elements. We shall prevail over all entities within our jurisdiction. Our God-given strength shall overpower that of all other forces contending against us. No power will be able to withstand our presence according to the word of God. May the Spirit of the Lord God of creation do these for us in Jesus mighty name.
