Some Teachings of Jesus Christ, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

About Himself

  • That He is the only way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father, except through Him.

  • That His assignment was to fulfil the Law and the sayings of the prophets and not to abolish them.

  • That the shedding of His blood is the only power that cleanses from all sins.

  • That whatever we ask in His name, His Father will do it for us.

  • That anyone that has seen Him has seen His Father.

  • That He will never leave those who believe in Him.

The Kingdom of God / The Kingdom of Heaven

  • This is the centre of Jesus teaching.

  • Like the earthly kingdom we know, there is an eternal kingdom on which God reigns.

  • That the kingdom is about to be introduced on earth soon, and repentance from sin is a requirement to be part of that kingdom.

  • That for those that have repented, the kingdom has begun within them already.

  • That three things are crucial to benefit from in that kingdom: understanding of God’s word; commitment to obey the word; and devotion to God alone.

  • That the time is fast approaching when God will separate those who belong to that kingdom from those that do not.

  • That it will be particularly difficult for rich men to enter the kingdom of God.

Love the Lord your God (Mt. 12:28-30)

  • This is the greatest commandment, it must be done with the whole of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

  • That if we claim we love God, then we must obey Him.

  • That we must put our trust in God alone; and put Him first above everything else.

  • That we must show our commitment to God.

  • That we must be humble before God.

  • That we must make out time to communicate with God.

  • That we must not let money (mammon) become our greatest love, otherwise God will reject our love.

Love your neighbour as yourself (Mt. 12:31)

  • That the love we have for our neighbours is very crucial to our relationship with God.

  • That our love to our neighbours must be according to Christ loved us.

  • That it is by the love we have for one another that all men will know that we are His disciples.

  • That our neighbours are not just people we are related to; but anyone we come across in life.

  • That we must forgive those who sinned against us, just like God has forsaken us.

  • That if we do not forgive, God will not accept of us and will not receive from us.

  • That we must help the needy, the poor, the stranger, the imprisoned and the sick.

  • That we must do unto others, as we want others to do unto us.

  • That we must only examine ourselves and not try to judge others.

Giving

  • That all our giving must be prompted by love: love for God; or love for the recipient.

  • That the best-given offerings are those that were done sacrificially.

  • That our giving must be done not as a show-off.

  • That the measure with which we gave will determine the measure we will receive.

  • That tax and offerings to God are two different obligations, and we must fulfil both.

  • That we must always give a worthy offering to God.

  • That tithing must not be neglected or left undone (Mt. 23:23; Lk. 11:42).

Service to God

  • That it should be desired more than the necessary food we eat.

  • That we must not only start serving God but must finish our life with it.

  • That our service to God must be done with the whole of our being.

  • That if our service to God is done rightly, we will be rewarded here on earth and also be granted eternal life.

  • That our service must not be done as a show-off, as an eye service, for the recognition of men or just to please men.

  • That no one can serve two masters without failing. We must be prepared to serve Him alone or serve some other thing/person.

  • That service to God brings someone into honour (John 12: 26).

  • That we must go to the temple at service times and also use our gift to serve God in His temple.

Marriage

  • That marriage is an ordinance of God, and that once it has been joined, no one should put it apart.

  • That marriage is between a man and a woman.

  • That marriage should be for oneness, permanence

  • That sex before marriage is sinful (fornication).

  • That sex outside the marriage is sinful (adultery).

  • That divorce must be avoided, though it’s allowed on the ground of infidelity.

  • That care must be taken not to marry a divorcee.

Paradise & Hell / Eternal Life & Eternal Condemnation

  • That those who believe in Him will enjoy eternal life, but those who do not believe in Him will suffer eternal condemnation.

  • That Paradise is for those who obey God’s word while they live, and Hell is for those who do not obey God’s word.

  • That it is not possible to criss-cross in between the two eternal destinations.

  • That Paradise is a place of everlasting joy, while Hell is a place of everlasting torment.

  • That both destinations does not have respect for anyone nor discriminate against any person; but whatever one has done on earth will determine which one of the place they will go.

  • That especially what death or rapture meet with us will determine our eternal destination.

Prayer and Fasting

  • That we must pray to the Father in His name.

  • That our prayer to God must be daily.

  • That the prayer of agreement is very powerful.

  • That we must ask until our joy is full.

  • That our prayer must include: worship to God; eager to see His kingdom; request for daily provision; protection from evil; forgiveness of sin; deliverance from temptation; praises and majesty ascribed to Him; etc.

  • That prayer combined with fasting goes a long way to get difficult things done.

  • That we must embark on fasting, especially when we are to commence a task.

  • That our fasting should not be done to seek approval of men.

  • That we must not compare our spiritual state with another believer on these bases, for God sees beyond these.

His Second Coming

  • That He will come back again to establish His kingdom.

  • That those who believed in Him will reign with Him in that kingdom.

  • That there will be signs preceding His Second Coming (Fig tree buds; wars; earthquakes; etc).

  • That the gospel of Christ will be preached at the end of the world as a testimony then the end will come.

  • That we must watch and pray as this will happen unexpectedly.

  • That it will happen in a twinkle of an eye, which will not give room for instant repentance.

  • That becoming a ‘bride’ of Christ to be is not just sufficient, but we must be ready for the ‘wedding’ anytime
