Victory is defined as the act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle; game or other competition. There are great and small victories depending on the extent of the threat; the power of the attacker; the duration of the contest; the number of the foes; the weaponry used; etc. However, it’s not all victories that can be perceived as sweet.
In the tenure of David’s reign over Israel, it happened that Absalom – one of his biological sons rose up against him and chased him out of the throne and the City of David. Father was living in caves and stronghold, while son was living in palace! Previous advisers and principal officers of David decamped from him and joined his son. Absalom also slept with his father’s wives and concubines in a tent with the public looking! The war was terrible, great and deadly. At the end of the war, David was granted victory by God as Absalom died a shameful death. However, it was a bitter victory for David as he wept and wailed for his dear son (2 Sam. 18:6-33).
Several years before, David enjoyed a huge and sweet victory over the enemy of God’s people and a blasphemer against God – the Goliath of Gath. Goliath defied the Living God and intimidated the Israelites for 40 days, until David showed up on the scene. At the end of the contest, David slayed Goliath; the Israelites became champions and God’s name was glorified (I Sam. 17:1-54). David also became an in-law to King Saul; his family became rich; they were exempted from paying tax; and he became a commander in the army.
In this month of October, God will grant us in Everlasting Father’s Assembly great and sweet victories. We will rejoice after engagement with any opposition; we will celebrate over every ‘battle’ confronting us. We will triumph in any game or competition we encounter. We will subdue any situation in Jesus name.
