Introduction

Hebrews 2:1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. 2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; 3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him

Most people that heard Jesus in the days of his flesh could not understand the depth of revelation of the message of salvation. 1Corinthians 2:14, they were natural men that could not receive the things of the Spirit of God. Hence Jesus has to leave a bulk of His message un-preached John.16:12 until the fulfilment and the coming of the Spirit of truth

What is the Gospel?

The word gospel is the word good news; when the scriptures say “how beautiful are the feet of those that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things” Rom. 10:15. The words there gospel and glad tiding are from the same Greek euangélio. It means good news.

What is the Good news about?

Could it be Miracles, Healing, Provision, Good Job, Breakthrough, Car, Visa, Degree, etc.?

NOTE: For the NEWS to be good, it has to be relevant to the hearers’ situation. It is NOT everyone that is poor, not everyone needs a new job, and not everyone needs a new wife/husband. Since the news is for all creatures, it must have a singular application and relevance to humanity. SIN is the common condition, Romans 3:23.

Let us take a look at what Paul said. Romans1:1-4; the message that was promised afore by the prophets in the scriptures was concerning Jesus’s resurrection from the dead.

This therefore implies that the gospel has specific facts. That is, for a message to be described as the gospel of God (Christ), there are facts that must be evident in what is said, else it is not the gospel. 1Corinthians15: 1-3

  1. Christ’s Death: He cannot die as God, so we also have to talk about his humanity

  2. How he was buried. Matthew 12:40

  3. His resurrection

  4. His ascension to heaven Mark 16:19

Christ’s Death

Christ’s death was not just like Lazarus’s death (three days stinking body that came back to life); Death is actually a separation. James 2:26, the body without the spirit is dead, that is physical death. Jesus’s death was in two phases. His first death was a separation from God (Spiritual death). That is why he cried Eloi Eloi lama Sabachthani (Mathew 24:46), He had been separated from God spiritually before He died physically. When Adam ate the fruit of the knowledge of truth and evil, Adam was separated immediately from God, that was Adam’s spiritual death (Genesis 2:17), he later died physically at 930 years old. Spiritual death entered the world through Adam’s SIN (Romans 5:12). So when Jesus was made SIN on the cross (2Cointhians 5:21), He was also separated from the father, the SIN of Adam was laid on Him. God made him to be SIN, so as to taste spiritual death for everyman. Jesus’s death took him to HELL, because that is where sinners go. He did not just remain in the grave waiting for the 3rd day. He had to suffer and be judged for man. 1Pet1:10, Luke24:26.

Christ’s Resurrection

Christ’s resurrection is what validates the gospel. 1Corinthians 15:17 says that “and if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins”. Hence, this is a very essential point in the message of the gospel.

When Is a Man Saved?

Faith in the Gospel of Christ is Salvation, Romans 1:16. The Gospel of Christ is the power of God unto Salvation. Romans 10:8-10; the moment a man believes in his heart that God raised Jesus from the dead for his justification and he confess the same with his mouth such man is saved.

  1. Is believing in miracle the same as salvation? NO! Many people who followed Jesus believed he had power to perform miracles, but that is not the same as having faith for Salvation. In Matthew 8:5-13, the subject of faith of the centurion was healing and nothing else. In John 6:26, they were looking for Jesus because of the earlier miracle he performed “food”

  2. Is it possible to be among the brethren and not believe? YES! Many Disciples followed Jesus John 6:60-64 and they did not believe in his message v 64 says “and there are some of you that believe not (His followers)”. This category can easily fall into Matt7:21-23. When the Lord will say “depart from me, for I know you not”. Because they never believed.

Conclusion

Faith in the Gospel is faith in the resurrection of Christ and this is the ONLY message that saves. The gospel is the message concerning Jesus’ resurrection for our Justification; salvation and righteousness. This Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. John 1:12. 2Cor5:16-21. Rom8:1-3 Rom4:24, 5:1-2.
