Shout can be defined as a loud cry of expressing a strong emotion or calling attention. The act of saying something very loudly or making a very loud sound with your voice. Victory can be defined as the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist, success or triumph over an enemy in battle or war. It can be a success in a struggle, competition or contest. It can also be the defeat of an opponent or the overcoming of an obstacle.
The shout of victory can therefore be said to be a loud cry of expressing strong emotions due to the overcoming of an enemy, a struggle, a war or an obstacle.
As the Children of Israel continued on their journey to the Promised Land, they crossed the Red Sea, they circled the wilderness for 40 years till they eventually crossed the Jordan River. They then encamped at the Plains of Jericho as they faced another obstacle – the Walls of Jericho.
The walls were said to be huge, at least 13 feet in height and wide enough for two chariots to ride side by side. It was formidable. The gates of the city were shut tightly and the men of the city were prepared for war, though they were inundated with the news of the miraculous feats the God of the Israelites had wrought for them along the way.
As the almost two million Israelites awaited instructions from Joshua on what to do next, in order to move forward to their Promised Land, God gave Joshua the strategy to win the war with Jericho. The people were to walk around the city of Jericho once a day for six days quietly. On the seventh day, they were to walk around the city seven times. After the seventh time, they were to render a shout of victory with both their voices and the priests with trumpets. God said that shout of victory would bring down the walls.
Exactly as God said, as soon as the Israelites gave a shout of victory, the walls of Jericho fell and they overthrew the city (Joshua 6: 1-21). The weapon for that warfare was obedience to “The Shout of Victory”.
The month of December of every year is usually a kind of ‘battle ground’ in many respects: spiritually, physically, mentally, financially, matrimonially, ministry wise, etc. God has however laid it in my heart that our weapon to engage the battle within the month shall be ‘shouts of victory’.
God wants us to give Him unusual praises and worship throughout this month of December. Our musical instruments and voices must be intense. As we do so, every ‘walls of Jericho’ ahead of us will crumble. Every barrier and difficulty blocking our path to our Promised Land of year 2024 will be bulldozed. We shall overcome and overthrow December 2023 in Jesus mighty name. May the whole Assembly enjoy these promises in Jesus name.
