You Are Bought With A Price, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

Any time people see a beautiful item on display, what comes to mind next is “what is the price?” Or how much is it.

The same thing happens when see something nice on someone we know, after saying it’s nice, what we might asked them next is how much was it.

So that more often than not, there is a correlation between the value and worth of something and the price tag on it.

As Children of God, we are precious people in the sight of God, not only because we are His creation, but because we have been bought with a price.

I Corinthians 6:20 – For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Here, Apostle Paul wrote the church at Corinth that they should not involve themselves in sexual immorality as they were no longer their own, since they have been bought with a price by God.

The church at Corinth evolved in a particularly challenging climate for Christianity. Greek civilization was prevalence and it was posing difficulty to believers to live a life of holiness, purity and the fullness of Christ. So Paul sent a letter to them to make them recognize who they are in Christ.

Our God is the God of the spirits of all flesh; He is The Lord of lords, the King of kings and Maker of all, but He doesn’t regard everybody as His own. He has special people He call His own.

Psalm 100:3 – Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

David rightly declared that God did not only make us; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. The sheep of God’s pasture are those that have been bought by Him with a price. The price of the precious Blood of Jesus, His only begotten Son.

In the era of slavery, when someone buys a slave, such slave can no longer do whatever they like with their life or engage in what they simply want. They must seek to please their master alone.

All human beings are born as slaves to sin, satan and death. These are the three masters that control the human race. God however sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross in order that Man may be delivered from sin, satan and death.

Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

It was for this reason that Apostle Paul wrote to the people of Corinth to let them understand that the power of sin and death has been crushed by the price that Jesus paid on the cross at Calvary. We are now servant of God as He has redeemed us from sin, satan and death.

I Corinthians 15:55-57 – O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

What is the significance of the Price that we have been bought? What do we gain by being bought with the Blood of Jesus? What is the grace that we are enjoying by being recognised as the purchased of The Lord?

There is this song we normally sing during Holy Communion that I really love:

The Blood of Jesus, the Blood of Jesus set me free

From sin and sorrow, the Blood of Jesus set me free.

May that Blood set you free indeed.

If not for the price paid for us by Jesus, we all will have end up in perdition, in doom and in eternal damnation.

– Thank God for the Blood of Jesus!

– Someone is here that is been threatened. May Jesus Blood which is the price that God paid for you silence whatever is threatening you.

The Blood of Jesus pave way for our reconciliation with God

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Keeps us from sinning

I John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

It purifies our conscience

Heb. 9:14 – How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Grant us sanctification. Consecrate us for God usage

Heb 13:12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

Grant us boldness to approach God’s throne

Heb 10:19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

Grant us healing

I Peter 2:24 – Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Grant us victory over satan

Rev. 12:11 – And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

While the blood of Abel was crying for vengeance, Blood of Jesus speak better things into our destiny.

Heb. 12:24 – And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

Grant us any other thing we desire from God

Rom 8:32 – He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

We can see that we have been bought with a huge price. However, sometimes the cost or price of a thing does not determine the worth of it to an individual; rather it is the value that the person personally placed on the object.

The price we have been bought is very costly, only if we realize it.

What value do you place on the purchase God has done for you? Do you acknowledge this grace of recognition upon your life?

In Old Testament the blood of animal does not just get collected in a bowl, it has to be smeared or sprinkled; otherwise it will not do its work of atonement.

In Egypt, the children of God in Goshen after killing a young lamb without blemish and collected its blood that blood had to be applied to their door post and lintel. Otherwise the angel of death would have visited them like their Egyptian counterpart.

In the same manner, any Egyptian neighbour that collected part of the blood and applied to their house would have escaped the visitation of the death of the firstborn.

So it is not only about the price that was paid by God, but also the realization and acknowledgement of the same, so also is the willingness and efforts to live according to the transaction that has been done on our behalf.

John 1:10-11 – He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Your life has been redeemed with the Blood of Jesus. Let the understanding of this Divine act overwhelm you. Live your life to the fullness of this knowledge.

Don’t let sin have dominion over you.

Don’t let satan cheat you.

Don’t let death scare you.

What do you want from God? Guess what? The price has been paid. Exercise your faith in God. It shall be yours in Jesus name.

Prayers

Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

– Father, delver me completely from all forms of anxiety.

– Father, let me understand the place of prayer and thanksgiving in making my request known to you.

Isaiah 26:3

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

– Father, let me enjoy your perfect peace.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

– Father, let the spirit of power, love and sound mind characterized my life.

Ephesians 2:4-6

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

– Father, thank you for your great love towards me.

– Father, thank you for making me seat with Christ in heavenly places.
