Backing can be defined as “support given to a person, a cause or an enterprise. It can be an aid; approval; endorsement; back up; blessing; assistance; help; encouragement”; etc. When such support, aid or approval comes from God; it is said to be Divine backing.
God specializes in backing His own. He promised never to leave nor forsake them (Gen. 28:15; Jer. 1:8; I Kings 6:13; Heb. 13:5). Regardless of what the approved of God go through, God promised He will always be there for and with them (Isaiah 43:1-7).
So we read in the scripture that while in the fire, God was with Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego (Dan. 3:1-30). While in the den of lions, God was with Daniel (Dan. 6: 1-28). While in the belly of a whale, deep down in the sea, God was with Jonah (Jonah 1:1-17, 2:1-10). While in prison, God was with Joseph, Peter and Paul (Gen. 39:7-23; Acts 12:6-11; Acts 16:16-26). God always back His own, not for a while, but to the very end (Mt. 28:18-20).
The man Moses was like another species of the human being; because of the way he related to God and how God used him (Dt.34:10-12). So when Joshua was chosen by God to carry on where the like of Moses seems to have failed, it would seem an impossible task for Joshua. God, however, encouraged him again and again that he had His backing; and that he should only be strong and of good courage (Jos. 1:1-9).
As we approach this coming month, the voice of the Lord – the greatest Commander says we have His total backing. He said He has chosen us for exploits for Him. He also said that of a truth, there will be challenges on the way; but we simply have to be strong and of good courage. He promised to grant us His back up; support; aid; assistance; endorsement; approval and help as we move forward with Him. May these be vivid in our lives in Jesus name.
