September 2022 Theme: Jehovah: I am that I am (Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh)

The Almighty God has many names revealed to mankind in the scriptures. One of such names He first revealed to Moses was “I am”. Prior to the revelation of this particular name, God was biblically known as “Elohim”, “El-Shaddai”, “Adonai”, Yahweh” or “Jehovah”.

Having got the attention of Moses by showing him a bush that was burning and not consuming, God began to talk to Moses from that burning bush. Moses was asked by God to go back to Egypt where he ran away from 40 years earlier, to lead the children of Israel out of bondage and captivity of 400 years.

Moses gave several excuses and reasons why he should not be the candidate for such an assignment. God however insisted that he would be the one to go, and that his elder brother – Aaron would assist him.

So, Moses asked God that peradventure if the elders and children of Israel should ask him the name of the God who sent him to lead them out of bondage, who should he say? God said he should tell them that “I am” has sent him (Ex. 3: 1-14).

The words “I am” was translated from the Hebrew word “Ehyeh”, which means, ‘I am who I am’, ‘I will become what I choose to become’, ‘I am what I am’, ‘I will be what I will be’, or ‘I am the Self-Existing One’.

So, in essence, the message that God was conveying to the children of Israel with His newly revealed name of “I am” was that He would become what they would need Him to become. As per their circumstance at the time, the Israelites were crying to God to deliver, rescue and free them from the oppression of their Egyptian taskmasters. God’s message to them was that He has come to deliver them and that they could count on Him.

“I am” also demonstrates the self-sufficient and self-sustaining nature of God. It also means “He who was, who is, and who will be”. “I am” is a name of God that answers to any and every situation. This name can be called and deployed to any given situation and circumstance, and results will abound.

God is ever-present and unchangeable, completely sufficient in Himself to do what He wills to do, and to accomplish what He wills to accomplish. No matter when and where, God is there.

In this ninth month of the year, God has impressed it upon my spirit that we should dedicatedly call on Him as “I am” and trust in Him as “I am”. He says results that are staggering and unbelievable like a way through the Red Sea will manifest. May the “I am that I am” Himself go ahead of us in this month and beyond to perform unimaginable things for us and through us in Jesus mighty name.
