The Blessings of Abraham Are Mine, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

The blessings of Abraham are mine, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

What is blessing? A favour or gift that is bestowed on someone by God.

Did Abraham have any blessing we can aspire to have?

Galatians 3:13-14 – Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

The church in Galatia was interested in the blessing of Abraham, but because they were not Jews, they were not certain. So Paul had to write to them stating who can partake of that blessing.

Abraham did not operating under any curse. He was blessed. His type of blessing can come to a Gentile through Jesus Christ by faith. So I’m happy to declare to you and myself that Abrahamic blessing is obtainable.

Genesis 12:1-3 – Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

What are the promises or blessings Abraham enjoyed that can be ours?

  1. The privilege to commune with God (Gen. 12:1). Abraham was born into idolatry. His ancestors worship idols. But God singled him out to fellowship with him. What a blessing to talk with the Most High. Isaiah 30:2 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Anyone that has this blessing can’t go wrong. A number of times God would ask Abraham to proceed to someplace which He would later tell him. If not for this blessing, Abraham would have missed his destination.

May you and I be blessed with the privilege to hear and also commune with God.

May your ears recognise the voice of God.

2. Abraham was blessed with Divine revelation. Milk and honey are good, but they are not easy to come by in a desert. Abraham was led to a place where milk and honey exist to enjoy in the wilderness.

May your eyes be opened to see where milk and honey has been kept for you by God.

May God bless you with spiritual and physical nourishment.

– You are tilling a ‘ground’ that already looks good (job wise), but someone will whisper to you about a ‘ground’ which when you till will be as a gold mine.

3. Abraham was promised and given a land by God. He received territorial gift or locational blessing. Even though the land was already occupied by others, God gave them to Abraham. He arrived as a sojourner, but later became the owner.

Why is it so? Psalms 24:2 – The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

May God give you a territory of your own. On the surface of the planet, may God carve out a place for you as an inheritance.

If there be any Hittite, Jebusites, Perizzite, etc, occupying your territorial destiny, I hereby decree their evacuation in Jesus name.

4. Abraham was promised and became a great nation. There are only about 14 million Jews worldwide. About 7 million of them living in Israel. But they are feared by more than 300 million Arab League and envied by the whole world! 5 million of them were killed between 1939-1945, but they are great still. They are very fruitful people, terrible to face in battle, very unique in nature (Deut. 2:25; 11:25).

May God bring out a great nation out of you. May God not just add to you, but may He multiply you. May the fear of you be upon all your neighbours. May no one dare to mess with you. May you be a force to be noted and respected.

5. Abraham was promised and pronounced blessed by God. Many people worked really hard in life, but few are blessed by God. Abraham would not have left Mesopotamia with many things, how did he come into such a great wealth in just a short space of time? He was given the power to get wealth.

He enjoyed great health. How many 75 years people can travel on foot from Iraq to Israel? He survived in tents and lived to 175 years.

He was still bearing children at 140 years.

May God be gracious to you. May He bless you and make His face to shine upon you. May you receive today the power to get wealth. May your health be sound. May you live long. May you flourish even in your old age.

6. Abraham was promised and given a great name. Apart from the name of Jesus which is above every other name, about the most important name again is Abraham. Abraham is very notable, popular, influential, famous, etc. Every living being wants to associate themselves with him. About 2billion Muslims call him their father (Ishmael); another 2billion Christian too call him father (Jesus), about 14 million Jews call him father (Isaac).

Even amongst the dead in paradise and in hell, Abraham is known as father! (Luke 16:22-30). What a great name!

May God make your name great. May millions call you their father. May your name ring a lovely bell in the ears of everyone that hears it. “A good name is better than riches”. May your name be good, and may riches also be added to it.

7. Abraham became a blessing. It one thing to be blessed, it takes another level of grace to become a blessing to others. When one blessing overflows, it extends to others. Abraham blessings impacted on the lives of others. Just because Lot followed his uncle Abraham to the Promised Land, he too became very wealthy (Gen. 13:5).

When Lot and all the kings of Sodom, together with the surrounding cities were taken captives with their families by Chedorlaomer, it was Abraham and his 400 armed servants that rescued them and brought them back with their belongings! What a blessing he was to those nations (Gen. 14:1-17).

May you become a blessing to many. May people eat from you voluntarily without feeling it. May God use you to rescue lives, avert danger, restore losses and saved souls in Jesus name. If that’s all you are able to do in life, what a blessing you would have been!

8. God promised and ensured that Abraham became a reactive agent to humans’ blessings and curses. So that his spirit attracted blessings from everywhere and repelled curses from all sources.

May all the blessings that have been pronounced on you stick to you for life. Blessings from before you were born, blessings at your birth, blessings at your naming, blessings at your dedication, blessings from all sources, may they become activated and glue to you for a lifetime.

Every curse and evil pronouncement over your life is hereby terminated. May Jehovah repel such curses right now. May those who sent the curses out be the recipient again. Balaam tried to curse the descendant of Abraham but he couldn’t. May your destiny reject any curse.

9. Abraham became the source of a worldwide blessing. The citizens of Israel are movers and shakers of the world. They occupy sensitive position of power, wealth and technology worldwide.

Also, Jesus the Saviour of the world came from the root of Abraham. What a blessing that is till today!

May God make you an influencing power on this planet. May your life touch the world. May your destiny have a global reach. May the world come to know of the goodness of God through you.

Can Abraham blessing be yours? What are some of the things Abraham did?

  1. He had faith or believe in God – “The Lord will provide”
  1. Obedience to instruction to go even when God has not shown where.
  1. He was a sacrificial giver. Chose one place; did not withhold his only son
  1. He was a tithe payer. When He met Melchisedek. Have you met Christ? Do you pay your tithe to Him?
  1. He was heavenly focus. He didn’t build a mansion, though he had the means.
