September 2025 Theme: Divine Assistance to Break Forth

What does break forth mean? Below are few insights to the meaning of the word “break forth”.

To “break forth” means to suddenly emerge, burst out, or experience a supernatural release. In Scripture, it often signifies a divine intervention that causes a person or situation to shift dramatically.

The term “break forth” can also mean to suddenly and forcefully emerge or appear, often related to an action or expression that occurs unexpectedly and energetically. It can refer to a burst of emotion, creativity, or activity, usually characterised by a noticeable and abrupt change or expansion.

To “break forth” can also mean to be forcefully separated from the usual and move forward in time, place, and degree. It is to be divided from the status quo and come out in view into a higher place or position.

Synonyms of “break forth” include break loose, explode, launch, shoot out, forcefully eject, burst forth and change state.

While breaking forth is something desirable and necessary, it does not happen just like that. According to law of motion in Physics, an object will always remain in same place, and will only move when a force acts upon it. The kind of movement made will again be consistent with the kind of force that is acting upon the object.

For a believer or any life at all to experience a break forth, it must have undergone either an internal or external force that is compelling such a life to move suddenly or quickly. If such internal/external force is from the Holy Spirit, it can be termed as Divine assistance to break forth.

The story of the birth of Perez and Zerah in the bible is an interesting one. It substantiated the word of Jesus Christ where He said, “the first shall be the last, and the last becoming the first”. It also substantiated the words of Apostle Paul where he said that what the world see as the ‘foolishness of God’ is still wiser than the wisdom of men, and moreover that “God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise”.

In the land of Isreal, the first born child, (especially sons), connotes a high degree of honour and worth. About half of a man’s estate in the ancient Isreal belongs to his firstborn son after his demise. There is also the Abrahamic covenant of God that generally flow through their firstborn. So, it was a huge opportunity and privilege for those who were born first into an Israeli family, especially as a son.

While Joseph received a double potion blessing from Jacob – their father, it was Judah who received the continuation of the Abrahamic blessing   “Through you all the families of all the nations of the earth shall be blessed” (Gen. 12:3; Gen. 50: 8-12, 22-26).

Judah however had a peculiar problem with having grandchildren who should continue his linage until the prophesied Messiah (Shiloh) would come.

His first son (Er) married a woman called Tamar, but because of his wickedness, he died without a son. Judah’s second son (Onan) by tradition married Tamar and also died because of his wickedness. Judah became highly suspicious of Tamar’s bad luck, and did not want his last son – Shelah to marry her. But when Judah’s wife died, Tamar disguised herself as a loose woman and tricked Judah to sleep with her. She became pregnant with twins from that improper relationship.

When Tamar was due to give birth, as Zerah put forth his hand from the birth canal, the midwives quickly tied a scarlet to his hand to signify that he was the firstborn. But by what could only be described as Divine providence and assistance, Zerah withdrew his hand inside and suddenly Perez positioned himself at the birth canal and came out first, and sometime afterwards Zerah was later born (Gen. 38: 1-30).

This orchestration of event was so shocking and unbelievable to the attending midwives, which necessitated the name of this child as Perez –  signifying his “break forth or bust forth”. By this singular but spectacular act, Perez entered into the genealogy of Jesus Christ, which could have been Zerah (Mt. 1: 1-4).

The Almighty God has laid it on my heart that He is granting us His assistance to break forth in this season and beyond. We shall bust forth in amazing ways to many. Those who specialise in watching the coming forth of mankind will exclaim, what! at our emergence.

Negative actual and figurative hands that have been stretched out ahead of our emergence and beyond our appearance shall be withdrawn involuntarily. They will miraculously disappear. ‘Scarlets’ and ‘ribbons’ might have been tied around such hands to give them man-made prominence, the Lord however will make us to emerge ahead of them against all odds in a spectacular manner that will mesmerised the world.

God will bless us with internal and external forces that will propel us into undeniable visibility. The blessings of Abraham will supernaturally rub off on us vividly. God will indeed make us blessings to our generation. The world will certainly know that we are truly children of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. May God demonstrate all these in us and with us in Jesus mighty name.
