May God’s Special Kindness Overwhelm You, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

May God’s Special Kindness Overwhelm You, by Pastor Samuel Obafaiye

Kindness can be defined as ‘the state or quality of being friendly, generous and considerate. While loving is the ‘feeling or the showing of affection and care for people’, kindness is demonstrating that love more than the people deserve.

God is loving and He is kind. These two attributes of God are closely related and intertwined. That is why we see the words are joined together many times in the scripture as ‘lovingkindness’.

This compound word denotes the acts of kindness of God motivated by His love.

It is the kindness of God that saved us from sin and made us to become the children of God. This is the words of Apostle Paul in a letter to the Church in Rome.

Romans 5:6-8

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Hear what Apostle Paul said in a letter regarding himself and others like us to Bishop Titus who was then in Crete.

Titus 3:3-6

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

However, apart from the generic demonstration of God”s kindness to all His children, one can yet experience the special generosity and kindness of God. That is what we pray for today.

The kindness of God can be taken for His favour or grace. It is so powerful that it alone can make a person to be seen as a superhuman on earth and eventually a bonafide candidate of heaven.

David declared this in Psalm 63:3

Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

David was the most celebrated king in Israel up to date. He was a mighty man of valour. Feared at home and abroad. He was an influential figure that people could die for. He was very wealthy. He had several wives and had power to confiscate other people’s wives. He had several children. Yet he said ‘the lovingkindness of God is better than living’. Can this be true?

David must have realised that in life, we are bound to go through seasons of highs and lows, ups and downs; but the lovingkindness of God is however constant.

Also, while our life here ends at a certain figure; the lovingkindness of God is eternal. Whoever God decides to show His lovingkindness to, he/she will experience it constantly and forever as long as they walk with God faithfully.

David as an individual enjoyed that special kindness of God.

Psalms 40:11-12

Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head:therefore my heart faileth me.

The lovingkindness of God can preserve a life meant to die. David would have died from the javelin of Saul at very close distance; from the hands of Saul’s generals and Army; from his own followers at Ziglag; from the kings of the nations he ran to hide; from Ishibosheth – the son of Saul, and from his own sons aspiring to overthrew him, to mention a few.

Again, the iniquity of David was terrible. But out of special kindness God delivered him. He was prompted by God to repent. He later died peacefully on his bed beside Abishag and was buried in the City of David.

The message today is given to answer three people’s thoughts and questions:

The first person is asking “Is God really kind?”

The second person is saying “God may be kind to others, I’m not sure He’s kind to me”

The third person says “If only God can be kind to me”.

God says, He will be kind to you.

– You are here, you need a specific type of kindness from God, He says He will do it for you.

Moses experienced the special kindness of God. He dared to asked for what would have killed him, but God devised a way, so that Moses obtained his request and yet lived.

Exodus 33:18-23

And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. And he said, Thou canst not see my face:for there shall no man see me, and live. And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts:but my face shall not be seen.

– You are here and you have asked God for a hard, almost impossible thing. God will do it for you.

Jonah experienced the special kindness of God. He didn’t only disobeyed God by not going to Nineveh, but tried to spite God by making a journey in another direction. It was the kindness of God that arranged the storm to get his attention, averted the loss of lives, arranged a big fish to swallow him wholly, and commanded the fish not to digest him, but to vomit him near the shores of Nineveh three days later.

You are here and have disobeyed God by following a different direction from His will for your life. Now it appears that you are submerged in the belly of an ocean with no way of escape. God has a way out for you, if you will ask for His kindness as Jonah did.

Abraham was a friend of God. At about 86 years old, he made a blunder of accepting Sarah’s advice to sleep with Hagar ahead of God’s promise. God however told him when he was 99 years to walk blameless before Him. As he did so, the promised child came a year later.

Somebody’s promise is about to be delivered in this season.

– To someone here, God says, you did annoyed Me before, but now that you are remorseful, I will show you my special kindness.

Jesus had 12 disciples who were following Him everywhere. It was settled that Jesus would die for the sins of the world, it was also to be that one of Jesus would betray Him. Satan has decided that Peter must be the candidate amongst the twelve and must be doomed. But the special kindness of God overruled that move. Peter later became the rock behind the Early church (Mt. )

Does it seem like you have been earmarked for a certain failure? Has Satan put together a destructive plan for your life. God will by His special kindness avert the plan of the enemy regarding you in Jesus name.

My father was born by a man who was a traditional ruler and a herbalist. Making my father a descendant of the hated of God. His father was assisting people with charms, but he could not help his son, who suffers from acute insomnia and demonic oppression.

But by the special kindness of God, my father’s Mom sneaked him to a crusade where he was healed miraculously. Again, the special kindness of God safeguarded him as he ran away from home as a child to look for the man of God that was used to heal him (Apostle Joseph T. Babalola). He later slept in the Lord at a very ripe age, more than forty of which he never used medication.

It may be that you are going through a rough patch now, I have a word of comfort from God that His kindness will from now overwhelm you.

Altar call

Psalms 25:6-7

Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness ‘sake, O Lord.

Have you annoyed God before, you want God to forget your sins and show you tender mercies and lovingkindness? Then repentance is necessary.
