May 2014 Theme – Amazing Covenants

Amazing can be defined as something that causes great surprise or wonders or rather astonishing. While covenant is an agreement, usually formal between two or more persons to do or not do something specified. It could also mean the conditional promises made to humanity by God, as revealed in the scriptures.

In life, one can receive promises, pledges, vows, covenants and oaths. Divine promises are Yea and Amen! Once they are settled in heaven, they must manifest on earth. But if the other party is not faithful in obedience, God can alter His promises (I Sam. 2:30). The height of God’s word however is an oath which is usually after a covenant. Once God made an oath, He can’t just alter it, He is bound by His words. For a new beginning to commence in the life of Abraham, God made a promise to him (Gen. 12:1-3); at a later stage, God entered into a covenant with him (Gen. 17:7-21); not long afterwards God made an oath with Abraham (Gen. 22:16, Heb. 6:13-14).

It was an amazing covenant to a person like us today! A man of 99 years and a woman of 90 years entering into such a covenant that runs through their generation and is still in operation today even after about 4,000 years!

In this fifth month of the year, which symbolises grace, God wants to enter into everlasting covenants with some of us. We are to obey God to the extent that He will be propelled to enact such amazing covenants with us and for Him to ignite those amazing covenants He has made with us before. May God help us to provoke an everlasting testament of overflowing blessings, enlargement, expansion, flourishing and abundant life with Him this season in Jesus name.
